Gillian is a Toronto
based
lighting designer and a graduate of the
University of British Columbia's Design and Production program.
Her
education has been a long but rewarding road taking her from
her hometown of Thornhill, Ontario, through Hamilton and Calgary, on to
Vancouver and back again. This spring Gillian will be returning
to the Stratford Festival for her second season as an Assistant
Lighting Designer. Her lighting design for The Unexpected Man was
recently honoured with a Jessie Richardson Award nomination in
Vancouver.Gillian has learned a great deal from where she has been and who she has been there with. She is excited to travel and explore both classic works of art and contemporary art movements throughout the world. In her spare time, you can find Gillian jamming on her guitar, reading (anything from Plato to Kafka to Douglas Adams), and frolicking in parks and playgrounds. To her OWN chagrin, you typically cannot find Gillian in the kitchen preparing herself a fancy meal, nor can you find her scooting around town in a fancy car. She does however take the time to appreciate the fancy cars she wishes that she drove, and the gourmet meals she wishes she ate. In general, instead of envying the cars and food of others, Gillian prefers to dance around her bedroom to the tunes of Lauryn Hill, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Hawksley Workman and The Black Keys (to name a few of her favourites). Theatre is a passion for Gillian. She is always excited to dig into a new script, and talk and share with directors, designers, and other excited artists. She derives tremendous joy from watching her projects come to life from first rehearsal to opening night. |
